METH ABUSE – PREVENTION – ADOLESCENTS *mighty meth mites or mighty mites*

In a recent study, sixth and seventh graders that were allowed to participate in a family program of life skills showed significant reductions in use of methamphetamine.  The participants were followed for over 4 and 5 years; in two different controlled prevention studies.  Certainly, as with the D.A.R.E. Program put on by Police Departments and schools nationwide, these type of studies do provide hope in the prevention of meth abuse at early ages.  Moreso, the discussion of drug abuse in the young school aged child with families and with experts can only help nationwide.  The epidemic of meth abuse leads to broken families, broken humans, broken finances, and broken minds in our young children.  Certainly more work must be done in these areas of poisonous and toxic destruction of the human spirit and can only benefit the condition of our human enigma.

SMOKIN’ GRASS

Smokin’ Grass ©

In the sixties, the news show ran,
the worries of the five leaf ban.

Continued offensives against those drugs,
new czars against those dealin’ thugs.

Through the decades this fight continues,
when the use of grass heard less boos.

Medical use of the grass yelled loud,
but legislation remained so fouled.

Years later with new direction,
comment on grass, a new connection.

Disease, illness, and lack of caring,
for the abusive rack of financial snaring.

Burn the grass, smoke in air,
financial reward with no care.

Patients suffer, kids in house,
asthma, bronchitis, like caged mouse.

Cough, cough, cough …go inside,
play later, no recess, red flag day beside.

Gramma the mail is here,
but it’s old, with field burning so near.

School shut down,
fairground without clown.

Grass fields burn with disease aglow,
airways stiff, mucus choked airflow.

Smokin’ grass – will it help the pain,
remember smokin’ grass – and who’s dollar gain.

SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE – IDAHO LIVING 2006 – CDA – poisoning opinion

Recent reading verified local doctors are seeing greatly more patients with lung ailments, breathing disorders, and exaccerbations of their stable breathing diseases.  Lung specialists, allergists, and other doctors are busy with these suffering patients.

Many acreas, in the thousands, are burned by the grassfarmers and owners of leased land.  Many more acreas of forest lands are burning.

Why should the practice continue of grass-field burning?   It remains an toxic enigma and the politicians should be ashamed of themselves to allow such abuse of clean air, clean breathing, and should apologize to all the patients that have been harmed, suffered, and felt their financial burdens grow because so few are protected by unbalanced laws.

Which politician will lead those patients to a safer right to breath?   Isn't it time for change?

POLLUTING THE COEUR D’ ALENE SKIES ——– WE STILL CAN’T BREATH !!

WHY AFTER LOSING A LAWSUIT TO THE MANY FOLKS THAT HAVE ILL EFFECTS FROM FIELD BURNING – DO THE GRASS FARMERS, THE LEASERS OF THE LAND, AND THE OWNERS OF THE LAND CONTINUE TO DO SO……LABOR DAY WEEKEND IS ATROCIOUS…..IN THE IDAHO PANHANDLE……

WHY  SHOULD THE PEOPLE SUPPORT THE GOLF COURSES, THE CASINOS, THE FARMERS OF THIS PRACTICE…..MAYBE A SERIOUS BOYCOTT SHOULD START……….IN THE COUER D ALENE – SPOKANE MARKETPLACE ?

THE EPA IS GETTING MORE SERIOUS ABOUT THE MASS OF DEBRIS YOU CAN BREATHE…WILL THE EPA BE TOO LATE?

IT HAS BEEN TRIED BEFORE AND SHUT DOWN BY THE LOBBY OF THOSE PROFITEERS THAT GAIN….

DON'T BET ON YOUR NEXT BREATHE……IT MAY BE FULL OF SMOKE WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE AT THE CASINOS…OR YOU GET A HOLE IN ONE.

IT IS TIME TO STOP THE FIELD BURNING THAT CONTRIBUTES TO AIR POLLUTION…ARE NOT THE NATURAL FOREST FIRES ENOUGH? THE PEOPLE OF THE AREA DO NOT DESERVE THIS TREATMENT INFLICTED BY SO FEW AND BY THOSE THAT PROFIT FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL ABUSE, ESPECIALLY OF THOSE THAT CLAIM TO BE PROTECTORS OF THE EARTH AND HER SPIRIT…..

hunter risk and west nile or bird flu

Recently Nick asked some great hunting questions.  Here is my researched answer to your question.  This is on West Nile Virus and Bird Flu….Thanks for the question  * Dr.  Jim Winter  www.castmd.com

West Nile Virus

Q. Can you get WNV from eating game birds or animals that have been infected?
A.
There is no evidence that WNV virus can be transmitted to humans through consuming infected birds or animals. In keeping with overall public health practice, and due to the risk of known food-borne pathogens, people should always follow procedures for fully cooking meat from either birds or mammals.

Bird Flu Virus

Since 2003, a growing number of human H5N1 cases have been reported in Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. More than half of the people infected with the H5N1 virus have died. Most of these cases are all believed to have been caused by exposure to infected poultry. There has been no sustained human-to-human transmission of the disease, but the concern is that H5N1 will evolve into a virus capable of human-to-human transmission.

Human Infection with Avian Influenza Viruses

“Human influenza virus” usually refers to those subtypes that spread widely among humans. There are only three known A subtypes of influenza viruses (H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2) currently circulating among humans. It is likely that some genetic parts of current human influenza A viruses originally came from birds. Influenza A viruses are constantly changing, and other strains might adapt over time to infect and spread among humans. The risk from avian influenza is generally low to most people, because the viruses do not usually infect humans. H5N1 is one of the few avian influenza viruses to have crossed the species barrier to infect humans, and it is the most deadly of those that have crossed the barrier.

Most cases of H5N1 influenza infection in humans have resulted from contact with infected poultry (e.g., domesticated chicken, ducks, and turkeys) or surfaces contaminated with secretion/excretions from infected birds. So far, the spread of H5N1 virus from person to person has been limited and has not continued beyond one person. Nonetheless, because all influenza viruses have the ability to change, scientists are concerned that H5N1 virus one day could be able to infect humans and spread easily from one person to another.

In the current outbreaks in Asia, Europe, and Africa, more than half of those infected with the H5N1 virus have died. Most cases have occurred in previously healthy children and young adults. However, it is possible that the only cases currently being reported are those in the most severely ill people, and that the full range of illness caused by the H5N1 virus has not yet been defined. Symptoms of avian influenza in humans have ranged from typical human influenza-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches) to eye infections, pneumonia, severe respiratory diseases (such as acute respiratory distress), and other severe and life-threatening complications. The symptoms of avian influenza may depend on which virus caused the infection. Because these viruses do not commonly infect humans, there is little or no immune protection against them in the human population. If H5N1 virus were to gain the capacity to spread easily from person to person, a pandemic (worldwide outbreak of disease) could begin. No one can predict when a pandemic might occur. However, experts from around the world are watching the H5N1 situation very closely and are preparing for the possibility that the virus may begin to spread more easily and widely from person to person.

CDC’s Advisory Committee Recommends Human Papillomavirus Virus Vaccination                         GARDASIL now available !!!!

CDC’s Advisory Committee Recommends Human Papillomavirus Virus Vaccination Vaccine considered highly effective in preventing infections that are the cause of most cervical cancers.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted Thursday to recommend that a newly licensed vaccine designed to protect against human papillomavirus virus (HPV) be routinely given to girls when they are 11-12 years old. The ACIP recommendation also allows for vaccination of girls beginning at nine years old as well as vaccination of girls and women 13-26 years old. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer in women.

According to the ACIP’s recommendation, three doses of the new vaccine should be routinely given to girls when they are 11 or 12 years old. The advisory committee, however, noted that the vaccination series can be started as early as nine years old at the discretion of the physician or health care provider. The recommendation also includes girls and women 13-26 years old because they will benefit from getting the vaccine. The vaccine should be administered before onset of sexual activity (i.e., before women are exposed to the viruses), but females who are sexually active should still be vaccinated.

“This vaccine represents an important medical breakthrough,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat, director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. “As a result, these vaccine recommendations address a major health problem for women and represent a significant advance in women’s health. It has been tested in thousands of women around the world and has been found to be safe and effective in providing protection against the two types of HPV that cause most cervical cancers.”

Gardasil®, manufactured by Merck, is the first vaccine developed to prevent cervical cancer, precancerous genital lesions and genital warts due to HPV — `HPV causes genital warts in men and women. The vaccine is highly effective against four types of the HPV virus, including two that cause about 70 percent of cervical cancer. Those who have not acquired HPV would get the full benefits of the vaccine. On average, there are 9,710 new cases and 3,700 deaths from cervical cancer in the United States each year.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, More than 20 million men and women in the United States are currently infected with HPV and there are 6.2 million new infections each year. HPV is most common in young women and men who are in their late teens and early 20s. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired HPV infection.

“Although an effective vaccine is a major advance in the prevention of genital HPV and cervical cancer, it will not replace other prevention strategies, such as cervical cancer screening for women or protective sexual behaviors,” said Dr. Schuchat “Women should continue to get pap tests as a safeguard against cervical cancer.”

The ACIP, consisting of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), advises the director of CDC and Secretary of HHS on control of vaccine-preventable disease and vaccine usage. Recommendations of the ACIP become CDC policy when they are accepted by the director of CDC and are published in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). There are no federal laws requiring the immunization of children. All school and daycare entry laws are state laws and vary from state to state.

ACETAMINOPHEN OD & LIVER POISONING – DEATHS – TOXIC

ACETAMINOPHEN OVERDOSE AND LIVER TOXICITY

  • Over 100,000 cases of overdose from acetaminophen occur yearly in the U.S.
  • 56,000 emergency rooms visits are estimated.
  • 10 grams of drug in an acute setting, one time dose, can create liver injury.
  • Much less drug with alcohol, alcohol abuse, malnutrition, fasting can cause liver injury.
  • Antidote therapy can work, if started early; however, diagnosis is difficult many times.
  • Should it be banned?  Did the FDA reveal this drug’s potential for disaster?
